Posted on 4 March 2014 2014-03-04T00:00:00+00:00 2015-02-12T00:00:00+00:00

Since 2011, lites.asia has been supported by the Australian Government as part of the Australian Aid Fast Start program. During that time, Jeffcott Associates have provided project management and secretariat services. Current arrangements are now coming to an end and we are pleased to inform you that arrangements are in place for further support for lighting energy efficiency initiatives in the region, including the transfer of the management of lites.asia, to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) en.lighten initiative.

Dear lites.asia Stakeholders,

As you may be aware, since 2011, lites.asia has been supported by the Australian Government as part of the Australian Aid Fast Start program. During that time, Jeffcott Associates have provided project management and secretariat services.

Current arrangements are now coming to an end. However, this does not mean lites.asia has come to an end, as we are pleased to inform you that arrangements are in place for further support for lighting energy efficiency initiatives in the region, including the transfer of the management of lites.asia, to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) en.lighten initiative (to June 2015).

The Australian Government has provided support to UNEP en.lighten to secure the climate benefits of efficient lighting in the South-East Asia-Pacific economies, in particular via monitoring, verification and enforcement (MVE) capacity building activities. As part of this focus, UNEP en.lighten will plan and facilitate further lites.asia meetings and will also manage and maintain the lites.asia website for this period.

The UNEP en.lighten contact for ongoing lites.asia matters will be Laura Fuller, Communications Officer, UNEP en.lighten initiative who can be reached at . More information on the UNEP en.lighten initiative can be found at www.enlighten-initiative.org. The lites.asia website will remain at www.lites.asia.

Please hold the date for the next lites.asia meeting to be held at the Hotel Istana in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 22 – 23 April 2014. This timing was chosen to coincide with the Conference on Lighting Quallity and Energy Efficiency hosted by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) from the 23—26 April 2014. More details will follow from the new lites.asia Secretariat.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all lites.asia stakeholders for their participation and contributions to lites.asia over the past several years. Active participation and sharing of information and experience is what makes lites.asia such a valuable resource. I would also like to thank Stuart Jeffcott and Moira Mathers of Jeffcott Associates for their excellent work in managing lites.asia over the past three years. Stuart and Moira would also like to pass on their thanks to all lites.asia members for their active participation and support during this period.

Notification of Transfer of lites.asia Contact Database

As part of the transition of lites.asia management and secretariat services, we would like to draw your attention to the intended transfer of the lites.asia stakeholder contact and newsletter databases to UNEP en.lighten. The lites.asia databases are maintained to enable contact and communication with listed stakeholders on matters relating to lites.asia, lites.asia meetings and events, lites.asia newsletters and other lighting energy efficiency information and activities that may be relevant to lites.asia stakeholders (including for example the activities of relevant international standards organisations). If you received this message directly from lites.asia, your contact information is currently listed in one of the contact databases, which may include stakeholder contact information such as name, country, organisation, position, email address, telephone numbers and lites.asia meetings attended.

To enable UNEP en.lighten to facilitate the effective ongoing management of lites.asia and the associated activities, we intend to provide them with a copy of these databases with the requirement that UNEP en.lighten may only use the contact details contained in these databases for the purposes of managing lites.asia and communicating with stakeholders in relation to lites.asia events and relevant lighting energy efficiency and standards news. UNEP en.lighten may also use the contact database once only to inform stakeholders of options for receiving broader UNEP en.lighten news to which stakeholders may choose to 'opt in'. UNEP en.lighten will not share the database with third parties, however they will provide the Australian Government with an updated copy of the database at the end of their management of lites.asia.

If you do not wish to continue to be included on the lites.asia contact database please email and your details will be removed from the database. We advise that UNEP en.lighten is a United Nations Environment project operating out of France, Europe. If you elect to continue to be included on the lites.asia database (by not choosing to ‘opt out’) it is assumed you consent to the disclosure of your information to UNEP en.lighten for the purposes outlines above. Australian Privacy Principle 8 (cross border disclosure) contained in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act will not apply. Information will be handled in accordance with and subject to contractual obligations, UNEP en.lighten’s privacy policy and local legislation.

Regards
